The valve consists of a main valve that connects either the rod and piston side (rapid approach) or the rod side and return (power stroke). The valve is switched by a flanged pilot valve, which changes from rapid approach to power stroke at an adjustable pressure. Once the power stroke is engaged, it remains active due to a deliberate hysteresis of the valve until the inlet pressure drops to approximately 1/10 of the switching pressure. A check valve ensures that only minimal pressure losses occur when the shears open.
